They are best suited for more severe pressure applications and are most frequently seen in oil refineries and other massive chemical operations. They are made of bundled tubes inside a shell, which is a large pressure vessel, as their name suggests.

Manufacture and Fabrication of Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers.

Many applications in the comfort and industrial sectors use our shell and tube heat exchangers to warm and cool fluids. They are made up of a shell that has either improved surface tubes for high thermal performance or conventional plain tubes. One of the fluids, a liquid, can flow inside the tubes while the other, a gas, can flow outside the tubes inside the shell. There are two types of heat exchangers: single-phase and two-phase. The latter is used to boil or condense fluids.
